CiteAnything

Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 19, 2026

Scope

This policy explains how CiteAnything and the CiteAnything browser extension handle information when you use an account, create or replay a verifiable citation, or manage a paid subscription. The extension only captures page information when you explicitly use a CiteAnything feature or open a CiteAnything replay link.

Information we handle

  • Authentication information. The extension stores the CiteAnything authentication token or API key and your selected API endpoint in Chrome sync storage. It sends the credential only to the configured API endpoint when an authenticated CiteAnything request is required.
  • Website content. When you choose to create a citation, the extension may process and transmit the text or table cell you selected, nearby text used for replay anchoring, a claim you entered, and either a visible-page screenshot captured at that moment or an image you explicitly provide.
  • Source and replay information. The extension may transmit the source URL, page title, citation identifier, and replay instructions needed to create the evidence record or return you to the cited source.
  • Billing records. If you subscribe, the hosted payment provider processes your payment details. CiteAnything receives the customer, subscription, order or invoice identifiers, payment status, plan, mode, and relevant billing dates needed to grant access, credit usage, and support your account. CiteAnything does not receive or store your full card number.

CiteAnything does not automatically collect a general list of pages you visit, keystrokes, unrelated page content, personal communications, precise location, health information, or full payment-card details.

How we use information

We use the information above only to:

  • create the citation and its evidence preview at your request;
  • retrieve citation details and replay the cited source;
  • authenticate requests to your selected CiteAnything service; and
  • administer subscriptions, usage credits, refunds, and billing support; and
  • maintain, secure, and troubleshoot those user-facing features.

Sharing, sale, and advertising

We do not sell user data. We do not use or transfer it for personalized advertising, purposes unrelated to CiteAnything's single purpose, or creditworthiness and lending decisions. Information may be processed by infrastructure, identity, and payment providers only as necessary to operate CiteAnything, or disclosed when required by law or needed to protect the service and its users.

Storage, retention, and deletion

Extension preferences and credentials remain in Chrome storage until you change them, clear them, or remove the extension. Citation content and screenshots captured or provided at your request may be retained by the configured CiteAnything service as part of the evidence record and account history for as long as needed to provide the service, meet security and integrity requirements, or comply with law.

Subscription and ledger records may be retained after cancellation or account closure when needed for accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling, legal compliance, and audit integrity. Raw payment webhook bodies are not retained by CiteAnything.

You can request access to or deletion of account data through the support contact shown on the CiteAnything Chrome Web Store listing. If you configure a third-party API endpoint, that endpoint's operator is responsible for its own data practices.

Security

CiteAnything's official endpoints use HTTPS to protect information in transit. No system can guarantee absolute security, so you should use only API endpoints you trust and avoid capturing content you do not want included in an evidence record.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

CiteAnything's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy when CiteAnything's features or legal obligations change. The effective date above identifies the latest revision. For privacy questions, use the developer support contact on the CiteAnything Chrome Web Store listing.
